Jack Cooper
Jack Cooper was born and raised in Eagle, Mich., and attended Portland High School. Before graduating high school, Jack joined the Army National Guard and proudly served his state and country. After graduating high school, Jack attended Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich., earning an automotive repair and collision degree. Shortly after college, Jack opened his Auto Repair Shop and served his community as a business owner for over four years. In 2001, Jack married his wife, Kris, and accepted a full-time position with the Michigan National Guard, where he served as an aircraft mechanic with a drug interdiction team. Jack would spend many weeks traveling throughout Michigan and, on occasion, parts of Indiana and Wisconsin. Accepting a position with the Arizona Army National Guard, Jack and his family moved to Marana, Ariz., where Jack worked as a quality control inspector on Army helicopters. In May of 2009, Jack and his family moved to Springfield, Mo., where he served as a Maintenance Supervisor for the Army Aviation Flight Activity. Jack retired after serving 29 years, ten months, and seven days, but who is counting? He lives in Willard, Mo, with his wife Kris and their two sons, Brad, and Drew. 2011 Jack attended Liberty University, seeking a B.S. in Religion and a minor in Christian Counseling.
God brought Jack and his family to CTO through a friend at church; after attending many CTO Sportsman’s Nights and multiple outings, Jack knew God was calling him to minister with CTO. Serving under the leadership of the National Executive Director Kirk Bouse, Jack began seeking God's vision for him as CTO. Many months later, God opened the door to the Springfield Chapter. Since 2016, he has facilitated CTO Sportsman’s Nights along with CTO outings year-round. Currently, Jack serves CTO Missouri as the State Director.
Michael Johnson
Michael Johnson was born and raised in Miami, Florida, where his deep-rooted love for the outdoors began. From a young age, Michael and his family would explore the Everglades and Florida Keys, fishing for a wide range of species. They also made frequent trips to South Carolina to visit his grandparents, where Michael developed skills in hunting for deer, ducks, dove, and hogs. These experiences helped shape his lifelong passion for outdoor adventures.
Throughout his life, Michael has resided in Florida, Virginia, Texas, South Carolina, and Missouri, immersing himself in diverse landscapes and learning unique techniques for fishing, hunting, and survival. His varied experiences across the U.S. allowed him to gain a deep appreciation for the natural world and how it connects with faith.
At just 12 years old, Michael envisioned leading an outdoor ministry, a dream that stayed with him for decades. In 2021, 27 years later, he found Cross Trail Outfitters (CTO), a Christian hunting and fishing ministry that aligned with his calling. Since joining CTO, Michael has devoted himself to guiding youth and families through the outdoors, while also sharing the message of Jesus Christ with everyone he encounters. His heart for mentoring the next generation is at the center of his work.
Beyond his passion for the outdoors, Michael brings over 17 years of professional experience in youth work and ministry. He has served in various impactful roles, including Youth Pastor, Youth Specialist, Substance Abuse Counselor, and Firefighter/EMT. His career reflects a deep commitment to helping others, particularly young people from all backgrounds. In addition to his extensive fieldwork, Michael holds a master’s degree in human services, which has equipped him with the skills to provide compassionate support and leadership in diverse settings.
Michael is currently a Discipleship Leader with Cross Trail Outfitters of Missouri, where he combines his love for outdoor activities with his faith in Jesus Christ to inspire and guide others. His mission is to help Outfitters, volunteer guides, youth and their families find purpose, connection, and hope through outdoor experiences and a relationship with God.
Michael is married to Kaitlynn, his steadfast partner in life and ministry. Together, they have three beautiful children: Selah, Elijah, and Kiah. His family shares his love for the outdoors and frequently participates in CTO activities, enjoying the opportunity to explore nature while growing in faith.
